This is absolutely true, Mr. AVS. For example, a lopsided promotion policy that permits employees who engage in flattery to progress and prosper, while hard-working ones only slog and stagnate, will frustrate the career aspirations of the truly deserving ones.

When an employee's qualities become team qualities, everyone will be in a flow. Motivation can inspire an employee, but to inspire an organization, motivation should be backed by policies and processes. At times, it becomes important to paraphrase a quote like the above, brought out by Shri AVS Jai. This is necessary in order to appreciate the full meaning. Let us take one sentence at a time.

When an employee's qualities become team qualities, everyone will be in a flow.

From the above, it is inferred that the good qualities of an employee are seen in the team as well. So there is cohesiveness. This harmony makes people work towards a common goal. In tumultuous times, since everyone is showing team spirit in a flow, they would 'Pull Together'. On the contrary, in the absence of harmony, the incongruent forces will 'Pull Apart'. When 'Pulled Apart' by forces within, a team collapses, whereas when 'Pulled Together', the hope to win persists.

Motivation can inspire an employee, but to inspire an organization, motivation should be backed by policies and processes.

Let us see one by one.

Motivation can inspire an employee...

This refers to rare individuals who always remain positive and motivated at all times.

...to inspire an organization, motivation should be backed by policies and processes...

Now, motivating the entire team is mentioned. Obviously, this is possible only when the Apex Management in the organization plays the effective role of an enabler for its people to be motivated. History beckons that motivating an entire team demands a clear directive and support from the top. Not all people are auto-motivated. Hence, it is important to have policies and processes in place to inspire an organization. Policies and processes are the prerogatives set by the top management for its employees.

I would like to conclude with thanks to Shri AVS Jai.
