Resolving Negative Background Verification Status: Strategies and Communication Tips - CiteHR

Hi All, Currently, I am working as a contractor at CTS, and I am looking to transition into a permanent role within the company. They have completed background checks on me, including my education and employment history. However, there seems to be an issue as the third-party background check provider has reported a negative status, indicating that my previous company was blacklisted. I had worked there for about 11 months. I even contacted the Managing Director of my previous company, who informed me that the company is not blacklisted.

How to Resolve Background Check Issues

How can I resolve this situation?

Talk to CTS and check if they can deviate from the background check in your case, considering the fact that you were hired based on your knowledge, skills, and abilities, and rejected due to your present employer being blacklisted. I mean, it's not you who is blacklisted; it's your employer. Try to convince them that you will maintain high performance and quickly adapt to the standards of CTS.

A professional company should always have a learning and development environment or special measures that can accommodate someone from an unprofessional or small company. Try to negotiate with CTS to provide exemptions in your case, and I hope they will consider it.

Thank you for your concern. This week, HR will call me and ask some questions. How do I tackle or handle this kind of situation and negotiate it? I have done research on my previous company, and it is not blacklisted. I contacted one of my colleagues from my previous job, and he mentioned that a person from a third party visited the place to verify and asked for the company seal. Unfortunately, there was no one available to show the company seal at that time. After the person left, there may have been a negative report given to CTS. Please advise me on this.

Just talk about your intentions and plans after joining CTS, such as your goals and objectives, etc. Don't initiate this topic yourself. If they ask you about it, inform them that you are here to add value to the organization (CTS) and are leaving your current company due to several reasons, one being mismanagement.

Avoid detailing the weaknesses of your current company and never speak ill of your current employer in an interview (it's offensive). Instead, mention that you have great ideas to implement and perform better.

If they press for clarification on behalf of your employer, briefly explain the scenario and steer the conversation by asking for their suggestions on what you should do in this situation. Try to redirect the discussion and avoid mentioning being blacklisted or any other negative aspects. Also, assure them that you can provide a letter of support from your current employer for your recruitment.

Wishing you good luck.

Thank you very much. One more question. On filling the Candidate Information Sheet, I had wrongly mentioned the year for the previous company. I actually joined the previous company in July 2010. However, instead of that, I had put July 2009. Due to this error, the third party has provided negative feedback for the work experience. Upon reviewing the email I sent, I realized my mistake and resubmitted the form to my HR with the following message:

Correction of Employment Dates in CIS Sheet

Hi [HRNAME],
As per our discussion during the teleconference, the 'From' and 'To' dates for the organization "xxxxxx" in the CIS sheet have been corrected to 19th July 2010 and 10th May 2011, respectively. I have attached the amended CIS sheet for your reference.

It seems that HR may not have considered my previous email, possibly due to the initial report sent to the third party, resulting in the negative status which is inaccurate.

Could you please respond and advise on how best to address this issue with HR?

Thank you,
Siva
