Dear Seniors,

I am posting my question for the first time, and before this, I have gone through different links and posts on the same topic, resulting in confusion now. I want to know the following things:

1. **Calculating EDLI Payable Amount**

How to calculate the EDLI payable amount in case of an employee's death? What are the necessary steps to be taken from the HR side when an employee dies while on official work and after office hours?

2. **Form Submission for PF Claim**

Which form should be submitted to the PF department for claiming the amount? Will Form 20 under the PF Act serve the purpose?

Please help me with this. Your valuable advice and experience will be beneficial for people like me.

Thanks in anticipation.

Vishal

Please fill out Form 10-D for pension and Form 5IF for EDLI. I suggest contacting the PRO of the concerned office to avoid objections before submitting the forms. For further clarifications, please visit the EPFO website.

Thank you for your valuable advice. Form 10 D is used for claiming a pension after attaining 58 years of age. I was not aware of Form 51F for EDLI and will look for details of it. Thank you so much indeed for your words.

Have good times.

To Raj Asiwal,

Respected Sir, regarding your query on Form 5, if you are writing it as 51 F, there is no such form available.

Form 20 Usage

Form 20 is designated for use by:

• The guardian of the minor/lunatic member
• The nominee or legal heir of the deceased member
• The guardian of the minor/lunatic nominee or heir for claiming the provident fund accumulation of a minor/deceased member.

I believe this information will help clarify any confusion you may have.

Thank you.

EDLI Calculation in Case of Death

In the event of an employee's demise, the nominee or legal heir is required to apply for PF, Pension, and Insurance Fund using Form No. 20/10D/5IF. The management must then attest, sign, and forward these forms to the PF Office. The PF Office authorities will prioritize the settlement of death claims.

For EDLI settlement, the PF office will determine the amount based on PF service, with a maximum limit of Rs. 60,000.

Clarification on EDLI Claim Amount

It felt good to receive so many valuable responses. Please let me know one more thing: Mr. Gurumurthy mentioned that a maximum of ₹60,000 can be claimed in respect to EDLI. However, upon reviewing the link provided, it states that a maximum of ₹100,000 can be availed from EDLI: http://Citehr.com/244069-edli-calcul...ce-period.html

One of my friends mentioned that if an employee has passed away, the PF department reimburses ₹100,000 without any calculation. Could you please assist me with this? What parameters are considered when calculating the EDLI amount for reimbursement?

The maximum amount of EDLI has been enhanced from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 100,000. Later, it was further increased to Rs. 1,30,000. Normally, the EDLI (applicable for death after 8.1.2011) is 20 times the salary, subject to a ceiling salary of Rs. 6500.

Yes, Abbasiti is right, but the EDLI ceiling has no limit as it is contributed from a total of 0.5% EDLI paid as part of the 24% contribution from the organization. The first condition is that the deceased employee's name must be on the roll on the date he/she died.

EDLI Benefits

EDLI stands to benefit the deceased employee's nominees, where a child up to the age of 25 years and a widow until remarriage can receive the benefits.

There is a ceiling for both EDLI contribution and EDLI benefit. It is Rs. 32.50 and Rs. 1,30,000 respectively. EDLI contribution is not 0.05%, but 0.5%. EDLI contribution is in addition to the 24% PF contribution.

Yes, the contribution is 0.5%, which means 0.50 and not "point five." EDLI is calculated at a total of 24%, as I mentioned in my initial communication. I appreciate your first point. Please keep us updated with your in-depth knowledge on labor compliance.
