I am pursuing an MBA II year specialized in HR. I have read about PMS and performance appraisal, but I still have some confusion. I request your help by answering the following questions:

1. What is a performance management system?
2. What is the difference between performance management and performance appraisal?
3. What are the emerging concepts in performance management and performance appraisal?

Thanks & Regards,

I am Rima, I am posting my answers to your queries.

Performance Management System

The performance management system is the appraisal system for the periodic evaluation of the performance of executives. It is based on a 360-degree feedback mechanism, which includes feedback from self, peers, subordinates, and superiors.

Difference Between Performance Management and Performance Appraisal

The difference between performance management and performance appraisal is that the former is based on continuous feedback, while the latter is just an evaluation of performance without any post or prior feedback.

Emerging Concepts in Performance Management

Emerging concepts include quality of work life, job enlargement and rotation, and 360-degree feedback.

Rima
