Hi, I am 36 years old and have worked in a company for 10 years and 9 months. After leaving that company, I am presently working in another company for the last five years. I have not withdrawn or transferred my previous company's EPF account.

Please answer the following:

1. Can I withdraw my money from the PF account after 10 years?
2. How many years can I keep the amount in that PF account, or will the account be automatically closed?
3. How will I get my pension? Which documents will be needed to get the pension?
4. If I complete 10 years in the second company, will I get two pensions from EPF?

Please help and advise the best way.

Hi Sanjeev,

1. Can I withdraw my money from PF account after 10 years?

You can withdraw or transfer your PF after leaving the services of the company. The period of service does not matter.

2. How many years can I keep the amount in that PF account, or will the account be automatically closed?

As per new regulations, if a particular PF account is not active for consecutive three years, no interest will be paid on the accumulated amount. The account does not get closed but becomes inactive.

3. How will I get my pension? Which documents will be needed to get the pension?

To withdraw your PF and pension amounts, you have to speak to the HR of your last company and fill up two forms (Form 10C for pension and Form 19 for PF) and submit them to HR. The HR will complete all the formalities.

4. If I complete 10 years in the second company, will I get two pensions from EPF?

You can either withdraw your PF from your last company or transfer the PF amount to your current company's PF account. This way, you will have a single account, and the amount of the last PF will get transferred to the new account. For this, you need to speak with your current company's HR, and they will do the needful.

Feel free to reach out in case you need any other help.

Hi Seenu,

You need to contact the HR of this company. In most cases, the HR is cooperative and processes the paperwork even after this long period. They will give you two forms to fill for PF & Pension, which you can fill with your personal & bank details and submit along with a cancelled cheque. The PF office takes near about 3 months to process withdrawals, depending upon state to state.

Alternatively, you can ask the HR of your current company to process a transfer application for your PF, in which case you just need to fill up one form (Form 13) and give it to your current company HR, and they will do the rest.

For the transfer of FPF, my current HR wants me to get Form 5 and Form 10 signed from the last company. Please advise, is it really required. Also, suggest if I can submit Form 13 (after getting the sign of the current employer) directly to the EPF office.
