Hello friends,
My sister is working in a limited company as an HR Manager. However, she is the sole person responsible for managing all HR policies in the company. The company is not publicly listed and has approximately 450 outlets, including both franchisees and branches, with a total employee count of around 900. She has a total of one year of experience.
She has received another job offer with a 60% increment in salary. Although the employee count is lower, the new company is publicly listed, with 5-6 branches in India and over 400 employees. This company, also a limited company, is profitable but located a bit farther away. The new job comes with a 2-year contract, where if terminated earlier, she must provide either 6 months' salary or a 6 months' notice. After completing 2 years, a 3 months' notice or 3 months' salary is required.
The dilemma is whether she should accept this job offer or wait for a bigger brand name. However, the prominent brand might offer lower pay and a less senior role due to her limited experience.
Please advise on what decision she should make as she needs to sign the papers by 21st June 07.

In my opinion, if any company wants to enter into a periodic contract, then there are chances that the attrition rate is high in that company. The attrition rate may depend on factors like work environment, company policies, and career prospects. So, in my view, your sister should gather some more details about the company and then decide whether to join or not. Because in case the above-mentioned factors are not good, then she will have no option but to serve that company. Though the offer (60% hike) they are giving is quite tempting, one should consider all other factors too because if the HR manager is not satisfied and motivated, then how can he/she be expected to satisfy other people.

Dear Abhishek,
I already have a friend of mine who is working there. She says that the work environment is quite congenial. Though she is not a fast or old friend, my company is her client, and I have known her for the last 8-9 months.

Hi,
The contract terms are not encouraging. I prefer to wait for a good company rather than going to a company with tough contractual obligations. Nowadays, no one recruits people who come and join after three months. Due to the high attrition rate, they are putting up tough exit barriers. Even after some time, if the increment is not up to the mark, leaving the company becomes difficult due to these terms.
Please think again, as this is a decision about your career.

The company in which I am working presently also has a Bond, which I have completed. So in that case both the comapnies have the same policies. Regards, Pranita

Hi Fay,
I would suggest that she wait for a better offer rather than accepting this one. If she is truly concerned about the offer, she can research the company profile and the management. Additionally, she can request some extra time before joining her new position.

Hi Pranitha,
I want to make a point that your sister has only one year of experience. I can understand the problem you are facing now, but as a true HR professional or a successful person, you should not shy away from the situation. This is the time to prove yourself. Taking on more responsibilities showcases the inner abilities you possess.

Hi there,
I think that decision should not be hasty. It might lead to dissatisfaction later. But the priorities have to be set right in the first place, whether she wants money, a good brand, and a stable job. In case money is the concern, then she should join this organization for sure.
These days, if companies really like a profile and want the person to join them, they sometimes pick up the bond amount on behalf of the person. Besides, I think that two years would not be a long commitment in case she wants to learn something new. But this decision should only be made if she is unhappy in her present job. There is no point rocking a steady boat.
Personally, I would not have taken this offer because of the bond and other restrictions. Although as an HR manager, I think that this is a very good clause to be put in the contract, it might help reduce attrition.

The interesting point is that my friend who is working there has mentioned that not a single person has tried to break the contract. Only the good candidates are asked to sign the bond. She herself has signed a five-year bond.
Another senior, who has been in the same industry for the past 10 years, has mentioned that the employees are well taken care of in that company. Not a single person has left the company in search of a job elsewhere.
On the other hand, the issue in the current company where my sister works is the lack of hierarchy. She is the sole person responsible for all HR policies. In the new company, she will have juniors at the executive level, providing her with the opportunity to learn about teamwork.

Hi,
In such a case, I think if enough market research has been done regarding the same, then there is no harm in joining. But it is good to find out why such stringent bonds are there and if there is any way out at all.
From a learning perspective, yes, it could be true that she would learn teamwork and maybe other rules and regulations as well because a company with such robust practices would have a lot to teach as well. I am talking about all such things assuming that there is a positive bent of mind towards joining this organization and there may not be any point in getting confused or having negative thoughts about the same now.
I think you both should finalize this decision now.

After receiving your comments, I have made up my mind to send her to the new company. So, please wish her luck. Since she will be starting with the entire HR department along with her juniors, please provide suggestions on how she should commence. What should be the initial steps for the whole department as a whole.

From the entire fact, it seems that she is quite expert in her field and should definitely wait for the increment in her own company as she has completed her 1 year with the company. The terms and conditions offered by the new company are just absurd. You should patiently wait for the increment from your company and meanwhile try out companies that do not offer such restrictive conditions for employment.

Hello everybody,
I am Vartika and have completed my MBA with a specialization in marketing. Currently, I am working in a job, but I am looking for a change because my interest lies in HR roles. However, due to my MBA in marketing, I am not finding relevant opportunities in HR.
Could someone please inform me if there is a one-year or short-term course available in HR or its equivalent? This would assist me in securing relevant positions in HR.
