Seeking Clarity on Blacklisting Concerns

I have been working for a reputed MNC for 17 months, and after that, I received an offer from another company with a mere hike of 20 percent. After joining, I was not comfortable with the people, HR policies, and work atmosphere. Additionally, I was unable to access the PC for 20 days, and there was a conflict among the managers and team leaders. I felt very uncomfortable and decided to quit. I sent a formal email to the HR department and managers, but they did not accept my resignation letter. I was with the company for 2 months, and they asked me to serve a notice period of 30 days as the company had paid me the salary for 2 months.

I explained to them that I had been in training for these two months and would continue to be in training for the 30 days of the notice period, which would increase the company's investment in me. Finally, they allowed me to leave, but I was not given any formal letter stating I was relieved. Will I be blacklisted? Is there a way to know whether I am blacklisted? I clearly explained what was happening in the process to HR, but I don't think they would be favorable to me, and I have no idea what the process managers have told them about me.

Understanding the Blacklisting Process

How would I know what happened? Even those accused of involving millions of rupees get the chance to justify themselves, and those convicted of murder get an opportunity to argue for their defense. When these could happen with them, why can't it happen with me? To whom will NASCOM listen: me or the companies that follow this unfair practice? I'm confused.

It's not just me; there could be hundreds of people like me who become victims of this unfair practice followed by some companies.

Request for Assistance

Straight to the point, I want to know if my name is on the blacklisted list of NASCOM or not. Honestly, I'm not a job-hopper. I left the company without any offer letter from any employer. I have seen a few people raise these questions but not get an exact answer. It would be graceful if I could get the answer.

I am sorry to say this, but I think it's YOU who is being 'unfair' to the Company by branding their practices as 'unfair'. They are only trying to protect their interests—nothing wrong with that.

You made the first mistake by joining this Company, and by your own admission, with "a mere hike of 20 percent." Then why did you join them in the first place—if you thought the hike was 'mere'? Isn't it a case of YOU wasting their time and effort in hiring you rather than the other way around? FYI, there would be many for whom a hike of 20% would be a royal sum—it all depends on the circumstances one is in at the given point in time.

Second point is it would have been better if you mentioned 'WHY' you were "not feeling comfortable with the people, and the HR policies work atmosphere." Everyone has different reasons for the same responses—that's human nature. And there's no right or wrong response—ONLY responses APPROPRIATE to the situations. This also goes to highlight the point I mentioned above—that it's YOU who is being unfair—who stopped you from making the basic research about the Company BEFORE joining? It's understandable if a Fresher joins without doing any research about the new Employer [not because he/she can't do it, but the urge to join a job ASAP is higher in them], but coming from an experienced person, that's a bit of a surprise.

Coming to Your Basic Query: "Will I Be Blacklisted?"

Why are you so worried/scared? Just go about making your efforts to get another job. Unless you are hiding something from this Forum. I am sure NASCOM has more important things to do than keep a tab over such cases.

Hello Mr. Dhivaharan, I think you have become confused to the point that you need proper mental rest and need to understand certain things before taking up another assignment.

Understanding Company Policies

Firstly, no company blacklists employees. Even if you make a significant mistake, companies typically do not blacklist people. Some companies may not rehire you once they have terminated your employment, but there is no formal policy of blacklisting. You mentioned NASCOM, which suggests you might be overthinking the situation.

Sorry to say this, but it happens to many of us, especially when we are young and under 35.

Steps to Improve Your Situation

1. Don't blame the HR department for all the conflicts you faced. They are responsible for hiring and firing, as it is their duty (note: I am not an HR person, saying this).

2. If your computer was blocked for 20 days, try not to get frustrated. Wait until they give you permission to use it again. You need to mingle with people around and be a good team player; that is why you were hired.

3. You might have joined the wrong company or the right company at the wrong time. So, please don't regret it. Get another job. You will do well, provided you understand others.
