Hi Sapana,
ISO has different certifications like:
- ISO 9001 (Quality Management System)
- ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System)
- OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series)
- ISO 22001 (Food Safety Management System)
- ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System)
- SA 8000 (Social Accountability)
ISO 9001 is the basic certification that any company (including software companies) should opt for. It takes around 6 months to attain ISO 9001 Certification. The process starts with choosing an ISO consultant who will guide your company to attain certification. ISO Consultants will study your company's policies and procedures and help you to reach the ISO standards by assisting your company to fill the gap. This process usually takes around 4 months.
Once your company is on par with ISO standards, you have to choose an ISO certification body to verify whether your company is following ISO standards or not. If the certification body is satisfied, it will recommend your company to ISO for issuing the certification.
An ISO consultant typically charges around Rs 40k to 1 lakh (depending on the size of your organization and the systems you have in place, as well as the consultant you choose). The same applies to certification bodies.
Once you attain ISO 9001 certification, you can go for CMM level 3 certification within 3 months. However, if you go for CMM without any ISO certification, it will take around 18 months to attain CMM Level 3 certification.

Hi Venkat,
Thank you very much for the detailed information. If we want to provide certification to our employees for our company benefits, are there any rules and regulations? What kind of documents are signed or contracts from the employee and for how many years? Can you assist me with this as well?
Also, Venkat, what does SOX mean?

Other organizations implement an ISO 9001 QMS under the many related ISO 9000 quality standards because it has proven over the years that it leads companies to better operations, improved performance, and increased profitability. There are other standards in the series known as ISO 9000:2005, ISO 9001:2008, with ISO 9004:2009 being the most current.

BRC food safety standards (Issue 6) are built on the principles of clear risk-based food safety requirements, an informative report format, and food auditor competence. The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety has continued to develop and evolve with input from a wider base of international stakeholders, including retailers, caterers, food manufacturers, and Certification Bodies. The standardized reporting format provides information on how food manufacturing sites meet the requirements of the BRC standards.
