Hi,

This is quite natural, but the fear can be overcome:

1. Be prepared with your subject thoroughly.
2. Anticipate the type of questions they can ask and prepare accordingly.
3. Don't feel yourself to be inferior to anyone.
4. Be bold and don't be afraid to make mistakes.
5. Be polite yet confident.
6. Smile and talk - it indicates confidence and quiets the butterflies in the stomach.

Do your best and forget the rest.

All the best.

Dear Khifah,

Fear will always be there even if you are in the business for decades! But Riyaz has provided quality and practical inputs. Thanks. To Riyaz's list, I would like to add 2 more points:

1. It is perfectly okay to admit that you do not have the answers to their questions BUT promised them that you will get back with the answers soon. Once you promised, MAKE SURE YOU DO JUST THAT! This adds honesty, sincerity, and credibility.

2. Smile, talk, and LISTEN - you need to listen attentively in order to understand their needs before you can provide them with suitable solutions.

Personally, I do 1 more thing, i.e. I will say a little prayer asking for "Wisdom of thoughts, Wisdom of speech, and Wisdom of action to successfully complete the meeting". :)

"If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don't. If you like to win, but you think you can't, It is almost certain you won't. If you think you'll lose, you're lost. For out of the world we find, Success begins with a fellow's will - It's all in the state of mind. If you think you are outclassed, you are. You've got to think high to rise, You've got to be sure of yourself before You can ever win a prize. Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster man, But soon or late the man who wins Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN! 'Whatever the mind can conceive it can achieve' - ALL THE BEST. Hi,

As Mr. Riyaz has already mentioned some of the helpful points, in addition to that, you can do the following:

1. Practice in front of the mirror.
2. Should have done your homework well and have a good hold over the subject.
3. Thinking that you do not need to hesitate or be afraid as they are very senior to you, so you have a scope of making mistakes (but of course should avoid mistakes).
4. Try to start a conversation with the topic you are more confident in, so that you can start off confidently and will get less nervous.

Hi,

Thank you, Asha, Rashee, and Autumn Jane, for the acknowledgments. All of you have added very worthwhile points. The principle I tell my students is that "Don't Fear Seniors/Elders - Respect them." Just imagine that the seniors/bosses are there to help you and guide you. Treat them as friendly elders. I think if you follow all the tips given by all the nice people in this forum, your problem will be solved.

Have a nice day!!

Riyaz

Overcoming Fear with Confidence

You may be aware that fear is due to low confidence (a state of mind), which is controlled by the moon. Hence, make your moon strong by drinking milk or curd kept in a silver bowl or glass. You will be able to feel the difference.
