Hi all,

I need some advice. I am currently working in HR in a more administrative role, handling paperwork and generating reports, etc. I am not satisfied with what I am doing and don't know how to proceed. What can I do to make my role more interesting? I am part of a large organization. Do all large companies have the same problem of routine work, or is it just me? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Hi,

Although I am also new to the field of HR, I would like to share that typically, most HR jobs start with administrative tasks rather than HR planning, policy-making, etc. Therefore, it is essential to be patient, demonstrate your efficiency to your seniors, and you will naturally progress to higher levels within HR. Remember, just like in life, starting from zero and climbing up the ladder is the way to go. So, don't lose your mind, stay focused, and keep moving forward.

All the best, pal.

It's just that it's quite frustrating being in this position, and I feel like I'm not learning much. That makes me wonder if it's just my company or if it's the same elsewhere. If it's my company, maybe I should switch... and so on.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Hi Siddiq, I've recently completed my education and have been hired as an HR Officer. I faced the same problem. I was doing routine jobs and administrative work. However, just after a few months, my boss recognized my potential and started giving me more managerial tasks. So, be patient and don't think of leaving the company. Just prove yourself by doing the tasks efficiently, no matter what task is assigned to you. Hope you will soon find the task you are looking for.
Regards.

The problem you face is mostly encountered in large organizations across every department. If you view the work as routine, you will get bored and seek change. Even after switching to another organization, you will feel the same. Therefore, do your work happily, succeed, learn new things, and understand all statutory compliances and the skill matrix of your organization.

If you are tasked with generating reports, follow instructions and also consider creating additional reports that are necessary for the organization.

Steps to Enhance Your Role

1. Analyze reports such as attrition and attrition in specific departments, identify problems, and provide a report to your supervisor.

2. Review personal files to ensure all documents are present. If any documents are missing from employees, initiate the collection process. Obtain duplicate copies of appraisal letters and appointment letters.

3. Review the employee attendance report and identify employees with frequent absenteeism. Report these findings to your supervisor.

Gradually express your interest to your supervisor in engaging in employee activities, statutory compliance, or recruitment.

Remember: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you."

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

The points raised by Shenbagarajan are very important. In the same way, I improved my image by following these steps:

1. Analyze reports such as attrition and attrition in a particular department. Identify the problem and provide a report to your reporting boss.

2. Check personal files to ensure all documents are present. If anything has not been collected from employees, initiate the process. Collect duplicate copies of the appraisal letter and appointment letter.

3. Look for the employee attendance report and identify employees with frequent absenteeism. Report this to your boss.

Regards
