Hi Meenu,

Professional tax is deducted from the Gross salary, and below stated is the slab for the same in Maharashtra:

0 - 2000 = 0
2001 - 2500 = 30
2501 - 3500 = 60
3501 - 5000 = 120
5001 - 9999 = 175
10,000 and more = 200

For employees who earn more than Rs. 10,000 a month, deduct an extra Rs. 100 in the month of February to reach the figure of Rs. 2500, which is the total amount of Professional Tax to be deducted in a year.

Hope this information is helpful to you!

Regards,
Anjali

    Hi Pooja,

Please find the definition of payroll below:

Payroll includes all forms of compensation, such as salaries, wages, reported tips, commissions, bonuses, vacation allowances, sick-leave pay, employee contributions to qualified pension plans, and the value of taxable fringe benefits. For corporations, it includes amounts paid to officers and executives; for unincorporated businesses, it does not include profit or other compensation of proprietors or partners. Payroll is reported before deductions for Social Security, income tax, insurance, union dues, etc.
