Professional tax is deducted from the Gross salary, and below stated is the slab for the same in Maharashtra:
0 - 2000 = 0
2001 - 2500 = 30
2501 - 3500 = 60
3501 - 5000 = 120
5001 - 9999 = 175
10,000 and more = 200
For employees who earn more than Rs. 10,000 a month, deduct an extra Rs. 100 in the month of February to reach the figure of Rs. 2500, which is the total amount of Professional Tax to be deducted in a year.

Gross Salary Rs.0 to Rs.2500/- PTAX is Rs.0
Rs.2501 to Rs.3500/- PTAX is Rs.60/- per month
Rs.3501/- to Rs.5000/- PTAX is Rs.120/- per month
