Hi,

I have a question about my PF withdrawal/transfer. I was working with an organization for a period of 6 months. I left the organization due to some reasons, without serving notice/buying notice, nor did I take the relieving letter. Now, my question is "Can I withdraw/transfer my PF balance to my new employment," the information I have with me is my PF account number and office address. Please reply...

Hi there,

If you want to transfer your amount, simply fill out Form 13 with your current employer, and they will take care of the rest. Alternatively, if you wish to withdraw your amount, fill out Form 19 and 10C, and submit them to your previous employer. This way, nobody can hold or stop your PF amount.

In case you want to withdraw you can do that after two months from the date you left the job, and in case you want to transfer it can also be done

Probably the PF authorities do not permit withdrawal if accumulations are for the period of 6 months. The company you have left may not cooperate with you. Mind you, one should always leave the company in a decent manner.

As long as you have your correct PF number, you can transfer it to your new PF with your current employer. It would not be advisable to withdraw the money as it is a part of your social security funds and should not be used.

Dear Anupam,

You can transfer or withdraw your PF after it is duly attested by your previous employer. Your previous employer must acknowledge that you are a current employee of the organization (previous company).

Dear Anupam,

You can transfer your account from the current employer by using Form 13 (revised), which is available at the EPF office. I feel that transferring your account would be better than withdrawing your amount.

Hi all,

I want to know if any employee worked less than 6 months and left the company due to personal or some other reason, but with a proper resignation and relieving letter, and they need to withdraw the PF money. In this case, which form should be filled and submitted to the PF office - Form 10C or 19?

Hi,

You can withdraw your PF in some special cases like at the time of retirement, major medical treatment, house construction, children's education, and more. However, you can transfer your PF if you are part of the PF scheme in your present company. If you are not enrolled in the PF scheme at your current company, you can withdraw your PF from your previous organization. The Employees' Provident Fund Scheme 1952 (Form No.13) requires your EPF account number from the previous employer.

Thank you everybody for your useful comments.

My current company's HR is saying that "if you do not have a relieving letter we can't process your PF transfer." Is the relieving letter from the previous employer necessary to get it transferred? "I can't see any clause in the form 13 saying that the proof of the end of employment is required."

Please note that I have not served notice and not paid for notice due to some reasons; I had to leave the job.

The way you exit the company is not complete. The employer-employee relationship was not severed simply by absconding or quitting on your own. At your discretion, you left the company without any explanation. Why do you seek a small part of the contribution? As an employer, your previous company may feel that you have deviated from the procedures they have set for parting ways, which could set a precedent. However, the employer does not have any right to the contributions paid to PF. To request a transfer of funds, you need to submit form 13. For closure (form 19 & 10c), you have to send these forms to your previous employer. They may not approve your request. Therefore, it is advisable to go through the PF authorities for closure or through your current employer for a transfer and pursue it.
