To be factual, compensation in India is nowhere comparable to other parts of the world, as we are still a developing country and our economy is agrarian-based. Therefore, you cannot directly compare our compensation levels with the Western world. However, I can assure you that in the future, we are going to be among the top employers in terms of monetary benefits.

Hi,
The compensation in India is very different from the compensation paid abroad. It is very difficult to compare the two, as they are different topics. Therefore, there is no logic behind discussing it.
Even if big MNCs are coming to India, the compensation landscape in India will not change significantly, except in the IT industry.
Thank you.

Hello,
Let us put this into practical terms. We all know that many companies in major industries have clients outside India. This itself shows the interest of those particular clients in cost control. Some clients are interested in the work or performance of Indians; however, they prefer to have assignments done in India rather than bringing an Indian to their country. This is mainly due to the reduced costs and the higher quality of work that is performed in India.
While there are some countries that provide better costs than India, many clients choose not to move their operations to these countries because they receive high-quality work at a reasonable rate in India. This demonstrates that the salary packages in India cannot be directly compared to those in Western countries.
Additionally, there are certain benefits provided to employees in India that are of significant value. :-)
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Friends,
It's not about comparing the pay scales in order to offend any country... well, I guess all of us would agree that compensation is a major motivating factor for an employee. If not all, but mostly employees are driven by the compensation paid to them. While headhunting, organizations usually make their package a little alluring compared to their rivals, as do other organizations in order to retain talent. We talk about brain drain... why this brain drain? What's the role of the money factor? Don't you think money is a definite factor causing brain drain?

Yes, Bose. Money and other facilities have a definite impact in this matter. Moreover, no more red tapeism, full freedom to fire on all cylinders, recognition, no more angootha chap bosses, and a lot more.

Dear All,
Can anyone help me in understanding the level of compensation packages offered in software companies, such as startups, mid-level, and established companies, based on skill sets in Java and Linux platforms with 1-2 years of experience? These details are needed as we are preparing for upcoming appraisals in April.
Your prompt assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

The compensation in India is almost on par with most international companies. There are a number of expats working in India. This is considering the purchasing power of the rupee in India. For example, the cost of a loaf of bread in India is approximately INR 20 or US$ 0.40, whereas in the US, the cost is almost US$ 1.00.
We cannot compare salaries solely based on figures but must also consider the cost of living.
Thanks

Then who will pay the different types of taxes? Who will pay bribes in government offices? For a single paperwork, we have to buy a minimum of 3 pairs of shoes (to manage the wear and tear during the lengthy process!!!), MISCELLANEOUS EXPENSES ARE EXTRA... So, the cost of living is high in India compared to the US or any other country!
