Difference Between Managing Director And Executive Director?

ashesh
Any views? Can these both positions exist within the same organization?

Dear Ashish...
Yes, these two positions can exist together. In our organization, we have Executive Director as well as Managing Director too. The company is having 2 plants and Executive Director is working as Plant Head for one plant while Managing Director is the owner of both the companies.
I think, my answer will solve your query.
But more comments from experienced people are still required.
Thanks,

Managing Director - Numero Uno - responsibility is absolute unless there are more than one Managing Director.
Executive Director - Defined, demarcated and designated. He is responsible for what is he designated for.
eg. CMD Anderson , Union Carbide - he was responsible for the Bhopal tragedy as he was CMD of the holding company[ worldwide operations].
An Executive Director - if he is not designated as responsible for the The particular operation he cannot be held re3sponsible
Still he will be only next to the MD in the firing line.
M D can fire an ED , not vice versa.
Thanks friend for the question,
