How Should I Address Unprofessional Behavior from a Recruitment Manager at Reliance Infotech?

Dear Sir,

I work for an MNC in a good position. Recently, I received a job offer from Reliance Infotech. The job offer did not mention anything about the role I would need to take up; they only provided a Job ID.

I was overjoyed and curious to learn more about the job being offered to me. I reached out to the provided ID to inquire further.

In response, I received a reply from the Recruitment Manager of Reliance Infotech, which was very rude and unprofessional. He mentioned that it was not necessary for me to know the specific job being offered and asserted that it would align with my resume. Furthermore, he used inappropriate language that was quite upsetting.

While I am genuinely interested in joining Reliance Infotech, I feel the need to address this issue with the manager. Is there a platform or forum where I can express my grievances? The language used in his communication would likely provoke anyone who reads it.

Please advise me on where I should escalate my complaint about this situation.

First, find the details of the manager who sent you the mail. If you have already received the offer letter, the designation will say it all. Secondly, find out who the manager reports to and then write to him asking about your job profile. Build rapport with him/her. Once this is done, brief him about his junior or forward him the mail sent to you.

Remember, it is crucial for you to secure this job, but at the same time, one should not lose their self-respect as you have the right to know about the job you are being offered. The protocol states to report it to his boss; if no action is taken, report to higher management. It is a big company, and they need to be aware of what is happening.

Please send an email to the email address provided on the Reliance website. You can also send emails to their other departments if you can find the same on the internet by conducting a proper search. They have a good HR system.

I would like to brief you on what the manager has told me:

"We only provide answers to questions that are necessary. If you are unable to locate and submit an EVC certificate, then there is no point in continuing with Reliance Infotech. We selected you to work in our company based on the qualities you mentioned in your CV/Resume. However, if you have numerous questions about your work status and many issues, how can you proceed with your job with us?

We are looking for the best employees, not candidates who constantly question. If we do not receive your EVC Code number or EVC Certificate within 3 days, your application will be rejected.

Please review and let me know if this could offend any applicants. The manager's behavior seems erratic."

Vikas: Can you also post your mail to the recruitment manager? Nonetheless, the reply posted by the manager does seem overly authoritative. I'd suggest that you locate a friend in the target company and seek his/her help in reporting the matter to the faulting manager's superior. If the company is keen on its external image, they'd surely correct the erring manager. If not, I'd suggest you stay away from that company.

If this is the job you will be taking up, then I would think it's best for you to let go of this incident. From the manager's mail, there are two things one can derive: one, he is showing superior tantrums; two, he is probably overworked with hundreds or more such queries. I would go for the latter. With such companies recruiting hundreds every week, they will be bombarded with a million questions. Their replies are not meant to offend but just to get the right picture across; this, at times, might seem offending to some people. If I were you, I would ignore such issues and move on. But again, it's my perspective, which might seem wrong to others. Weigh the pros and cons and decide what you need to do. All the best to you.

The treatment meted out to you is really unfortunate. Professionals, especially those in the roles of selecting employees for the company and doing the job of company's image-making and getting the company branded as a good employer in the market, need to practice a lot of refined behavior.

Let this incident not discourage you or make you any angrier. The better way would be to find out a few employees of the company and inquire from them about the job profile. I am very sure you will get to know a lot better this way than what you would have been informed by the recruitment manager had he behaved in the proper manner.

My suggestion to you is that you must report this to his superior as this is not at all professional. It is as if he is saying that it is his company and if you want to accept his terms, fine; otherwise, leave. Play smart, take the job after finding out from friends about the profile, and then find out who this guy reports to and send him this mail. This way you will not lose anything. But do report it.
