Concerned About Background Verification? Navigating DOJ and EPF Discrepancies in MNCs

Snehal09
Hello, I joined my first company in Dec 2020 and enrolled for PF in Dec 2023. In that case, my DOJ EPF is Dec 2023 in PF service history. Will my BGV fail in future companies because there is almost a three-year gap between the actual DOJ and DOJ EPF in MNCs?

Did anyone face the same situation? Let me know how to overcome this situation.

It is not your fault, but your employer's decision. There may be a query from the background verification team because nowadays they examine every detail of service like a crime investigation team. Not having PF or delayed enrollment in PF is not a crime, and if a mistake has occurred, it would never be attributed to the employee.

Understanding PF Enrollment Issues

Now, regarding the query, let's consider this scenario: You joined your first company in December 2020. At the time of your joining, your salary was above Rs 15,000, so you were not given PF. According to the law, an employee who joins a company for the first time with a salary above Rs 15,000 can be excluded from PF. However, in 2023, the company decided that PF is a good investment, and everyone in the company should have PF. Therefore, they decided to enroll you under EPF from December 2023. The problem is solved.

But you can ask the Personnel Manager (HR Manager) why this happened.

Yes, when I joined the company in 2020, my basic salary was above 15,000, so the company asked me if I wanted to opt for PF or not. At that time, I said no to them. However, now I have realized that other companies also conduct background verification from UAN. Therefore, I recently enrolled for PF.

There is a difference of 3 years between the EPF join date and the actual company date. Will this difference create an issue in background verification for future companies? Please advise.

No, you are an excluded employee for PF. You can very well say that at the time of joining the company, you were not interested in getting EPF coverage. However, after a few years, you thought it would be a good investment, and then decided to get enrolled. This is a convincing reply for any background verification agency or any future HR person.
