In a factory having more than 2000 employees employed, can assistant welfare officer be appointed?

You must be knowing that we are to appoint Welfare Officers as per requirement of section 49 of the Factories Act, 1948. For appointment of number of Welfare Officers & their designation we will have to go through your applicable State Welfare Officers Recruitment & Conditions of Service Rules. In the state of Haryana, if we are to appoint two WO then then one of them shall be called as Chief welfare Officer & the other as Assistant Welfare Officer.

At present juncture you need two welfare officers. The Rules inserted bellow for understanding:
The Factory Rules under Section 49 (2)
Section 88,(Chhattisgarh). [Number of welfare officers. - (1) The occupier of every factory where five hundred or more workers are ordinarily employed, shall appoint atleast one welfare officer :
Provided that where the number of workers exceeds two thousand, one additional
Welfare Officer shall be appointed for every additional two thousand workers, or a
fraction thereof over five hundred workers and if there are more than one welfare officers, senior most of them shall be designated as chief welfare officer, and the
others as welfare officers.
(2) In the case of a Government undertaking to which sub-section (1) of Section 49
applies, the State Government shall, within three months from the date on which
these rules come into force, by order, specify at least one officer who shall perform
the duties of a Welfare Officer in that undertaking.]

Yes, a factory with over 2000 employees can appoint an Assistant Welfare Officer.
