Navigating EPF and EDLI After a Tragic Accident: How to Handle Unpaid Contributions?

rajkumar.avani@gmail.com
Respected All,

A person died in a road accident on 19.02.2023 (Sunday). He was working in the private sector, and his employer has paid PF contributions until January 2023 only. From February, he worked for eighteen days, but his employer has not paid the contributions for those 18 days. Which date should be updated in the EPF record as the date of exit, and what is the procedure to apply for the EDLI scheme? Kindly explain.

Regards,

EPF contribution should have been paid until 19th January, and the date of exit shall also remain the same day from the EPF portal to avail any EDLI benefits.

You should mark the last working date as 19-02-2023 on the EPF portal to avail the EDLI Benefit, whether the employer paid contributions for the month of February or not. Additionally, you should contact the employer to submit their EPF contribution for the month of February 2023, based on the number of days they worked.
