Is It Legal for Employers to Request EPF Passbook Copies from New Hires?

Hello, My company is planning to collect the EPF passbook from the new hires to ensure that they are filling in their details correctly in Form 11 and other payroll forms when they join. I wanted to understand if it is legally okay to ask for a passbook copy/screenshot? Thanks in advance.

PF Passbook and Employee Privacy

A PF passbook is a personal document of the member. Whatever the employee declares in Form 11 should be acceptable to the employer. Asking employees to attach their passbook copies in support of their declarations is unfair.
