EPF Passbook ask from the employer - is it legally okay to ask for a passbook copy/screenshot?

Hello, My company is planning to collect the EPF passbook from the new hires to ensure that they are filling their details correctly in Form 11 and other payroll forms while they join. I wanted to understand, is it legally okay to ask for a passbook copy/screenshot?

PF passbook is a personal document of the member. Whatever he declares in form 11 should be acceptable to the employer. In support of it, asking the employees to attach their passbook copies is unfair.
