Social Media Policies in Appointment Letters: Can Companies Require Employees to Follow Their Platforms?

Hello folks! Can a clause related to social media platforms be added to an appointment letter? Can a company ask employees to follow the company's social media platform as a policy?

Dear Minal Lele, Yes, you can add a clause in the appointment letter on the norms to be followed on social media. As such, companies add a clause in the appointment letter about the applicability of the provisions of all the policies in vogue, the changes made to the policies in vogue, and the policies that may be designed in the future. However, this is a too general statement. Over and above this general statement, if you wish to add separate clauses on norms to be followed on social media, non-disclosure of information, etc., it will be perfectly normal.

Thanks,

Hi, lately, this clause on social media is becoming more crucial, especially concerning BPOs and customs bonded warehouses where the data is stored and needs to be imported cautiously by the employees. Any sharing of such data on social media should be strictly prohibited. Nowadays, international clients who outsource their projects to Indian companies include a separate clause on data security. Sharing such data on social media will be considered a violation of the agreement between the employer and the client.
