If an employee covered by ESIC falls sick, they are expected to provide a sickness certificate from ESIC. The employer will not pay for the days the employee is sick. Payment in the form of sickness benefits will be directly provided to the employee by ESIC. Therefore, for leave related to sickness, the employer should not provide salary. This policy also applies to maternity leave and leave due to employment injuries or accidents. Medical leave is only available to those not covered by ESI.
