Women's Dispute Redressal Committee: Is It Needed If a POSH Committee Exists?

adv. Asmita Tibile
Is it mandatory to form a women's dispute redressal committee if the POSH committee is already in place?

Dear Adv Asmita Tibile, What is the context of the query? I wish you had narrated what has happened in your or your client's company.

Types of Grievances
There are two types of grievances: sexual harassment and general workplace grievances. The former is dealt with under the provisions of PoSH, while the latter is addressed under the provisions of the ID Act, 1947.

The latter may not be covered under the provisions of the ID Act. However, that does not mean the provisions cannot be followed by other companies. Instead of having a grievance committee, a few companies have an "escalation procedure." However, the objective of redressing the grievance remains the same.

Thanks,

Regards, Dinesh Divekar
