Feeling Stuck in a Finance Role Instead of HR? Seeking Advice and Job Opportunities

Mohana Murali
Dear All,

I have recently joined a company as Manager - HRSS in August '22. I was informed at the hiring stage that my KRA was to handle the HR Operations team; however, from the day I joined, I started handling payroll. Later, the finance profile was pushed to me, wherein I do bank reconciliation, TDS payment, PT PF LWF payments on a monthly basis, transfer of salaries, processing reimbursement claims, etc., which is purely finance-based. I am worried that my 15 years of HR experience is getting diminished due to this KRA change. Hence, I am requesting my CiteHR Friends to help me find a suitable job.

My current CTC: 15.6 LPA. Notice Period: 30 Days. Current Location: Bangalore.

Please let me know if there is any suitable position so that I can share my profile with you.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Mohana Murali,

A foremost correction needed in your post is about the difference between KRA and Job Description (JD). What has been changed in your case is JD and the KRA. A person of the stature of an HR Manager is expected to know the difference between these two basic HR concepts.

Recommendation for Your Current Situation

Coming to your query, not even six months have passed since you joined a new organization. Therefore, rather than looking for a change, I recommend you come back to the HR Department. To do this, you should put up an application to the authorities concerned to give work that commensurates with your stature. The work that you do can be done by the Accounts Executive. Internal placement in the Accounts department is an underutilization of your capacities. Therefore, ask them to give work that is compatible with your stature.

Implications of Current Role Assignment

Nevertheless, if a manager from one department is sent to another department to do work lower than his/her status, then what does it imply? Are the authorities concerned testing your patience? Instead of telling you to quit, is it an indirect message for you to quit?

Quality of Communication

Lastly, about the quality of your post. The wrong choice of HR terms, poorly worded sentences, and grammatical mistakes have undermined your status. Well, friend, be cautious of your communication on a public forum. Neither is it compatible with your managerial stature nor is it with an average professional from Bangalore. Please uphold your personal esteem as well as the international city in which you reside. The world is absolutely competitive, and our weaknesses should not allow others to overtake us!

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
