Is It Fair for My School to Make Me Work on a National Holiday Without Extra Pay?

Blizzz
My school is forcing me to come on 15th August, and as you know, it's a national holiday. They are not even paying me double salary for that day. Please suggest whether I should go or if I have the right to ask for double salary for that particular day. I would appreciate your valuable and helpful suggestions.

Dear Blizz,

What is your designation? Are you a teacher? Educational institutions celebrate Independence Day (ID), and teaching and non-teaching staff are expected to be present to ensure the celebration goes smoothly.

Many state governments have not declared the "education sector" as an industry. Therefore, the provisions of the Industrial Dispute Act do not apply. Thus, a rule for the disbursement of triple salary for working on ID Day does not apply.

Nevertheless, one should not grumble about being required to attend ID functions. This is the day, and probably the only day, the freedom fighters are remembered. Every citizen is expected to show national fervor, set aside personal chores, and take part in celebrations. The private sector enjoys the holiday, but for the flag-hoisting ceremony, they go to the workplace and participate in celebrations. They do this without grumbling under their breath.

Thanks,

If the school authorities are asking you to come for the flag hoisting, you may have to go, and you cannot claim extra wages for that.

Dear Blizzz, Just to inform you that no school in India is open for classes on the 15th of August, right? It's only a flag-hoisting occasion followed by maybe a few cultural programs or not. As an Indian, we should all be proud to participate in a flag-hoisting program on the 15th of August.
