How to Handle Recruiters Applying for Jobs They’re Hiring For: Seeking Policy Advice

Conflict of Interest Policy

I am seeking advice to draft a policy for conflicts of interest in recruitment, wherein the recruiter also applies as a candidate for a particular position.

I have prepared the draft as below:

This includes situations in which a recruiter or an employee who is assigned as a member of the selection team for the job fails to disclose to the hiring manager or interviewer(s) that he/she has an interest in the job opening and will be a potential applicant for the job and should therefore not be involved in the recruitment process. In the event that the recruiter or the member of the selection team fails to disclose their interest prior to the interview, the hiring manager can reject the candidate citing potential conflict of interest as a means of unfairness to the recruitment process and in response to the other candidates applying for the job.
