Seeking Advice: Best Course to Learn the Factory Act for HR Career Growth?

Dear Ma'am/Sir, I am currently working in Gurgaon, Haryana. My qualifications include 10+12th and a 2-year diploma in Modern Office Management and Secretarial Practice, completed in 2018. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Commerce (B.Com), and this is my final year of graduation. I work in the Payroll and Compliance department with the designation of HR Executive, where I have been involved since its establishment.

I am now interested in learning more about the Factory Act. Could you please suggest the best course for me to pursue in this area?

Dear Alpana, you may pursue an MBA in HR. It can be either an online course or a distance learning course. There is no exclusive course on the Factories Act as such. There could be a local institute that organizes certification courses on labor laws. However, before taking the course, check the effectiveness of the course and also the reputation of the institute in the market.

By the way, you have sought guidance to pursue a career in HR. Whatever course you do, it is important to have a command over written communication in general and over English in particular. On the sidelines, you may start investing your time in overcoming this weakness. Else, it could pull back your career.

Pursuing a Career in Labour Laws

There are good universities that offer Certificate Courses, Diploma Courses, and Post Graduate Diploma courses in Labour Laws. If you want to pursue your career and become strong in the field of "IR," it is better to pursue Labour Laws Courses. Nowadays, many good companies give importance to the Compliance department, which is associated either with the "Legal" department or the "HR" Department. In an MBA-HR course, no detailed coverage is given on Labour Laws. There is one paper on "Business Laws."

Annamalai University, Bharathiar University, etc., offer PG Diploma in Labour Laws. You can also check whether IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) is offering this course.
