Survey Highlights Gender Bias in India: How Can We Tackle Workplace Discrimination at Its Roots?

Dinesh Divekar
Dear all,

In today's Times of India, there is a news report on the survey conducted by LinkedIn on the subject mentioned above. The scanned copy of the news is attached to this post. The survey is on gender discrimination. But then what about other forms of discrimination like caste, religion, language, etc.? Various types of discrimination exist in Indian workplaces.

Nevertheless, the malaise lies much deeper. Mere training of employees on what workplace discrimination is and how to avoid it is not sufficient. It has to begin much earlier. Parents should teach their children what discrimination is and what negative impact it causes on society.

Equality is a value, and teaching this value should be a part of parental grooming. Unfortunately, while grooming the children, parents pass on to the next generation the biases and prejudices that they inherit from their parents. How to break this evil cycle is a challenge to humanity, and it is present today as well.

Thanks,
