Extended Probation and Seniority: How Does It Affect Future Promotions?

usman-haider
Rule: Recruited employees may be promoted to the next pay scale upon completion of promotion (not vacancy-based promotion).

Proposition: If the probation of two employees was extended and they were promoted to the next pay scale upon completion of the extended probation, will their seniority be affected for the purpose of further promotion, which is seniority-based? References?

You have inquired about the rules concerning the promotion of employees. However, these regulations are often specific to the country or even the company, with no universal standards in place.

I recommend reviewing your company's "Policy on Employee Promotion." If the policy outlines that an employee must complete a certain number of years/months after attaining the status of a "Confirmed Employee" to be eligible for promotion to the next rank, then they are expected to serve for that duration. In the absence of such a rule, you may disregard extending their probation period and grant them a promotion like other employees.

Thank you,
