First-Aid Box Requirements
First-aid boxes, at the rate of not less than 1 (one) box for 150 (one hundred and fifty) workers or part thereof, distinctively marked with a red cross on a white ground, should be available and readily accessible during working hours.
a. Where the number of workers employed exceeds 19 (nineteen) but does not exceed 50 (fifty), the first-aid box shall contain the following equipment:
- 12 small sterilized dressings
- 6 medium size sterilized dressings
- 6 large size sterilized dressings
- 6 large size sterilized burn dressings
- 6 (½ oz.) packets sterilized cotton wool
- 1 roll of adhesive plaster
- 1 (2 oz.) bottle containing a 2 percent alcoholic solution of iodine
- 1 (2 oz.) bottle of sal-volatile with the dose and mode of administration indicated on the label
- 1 (1 oz.) bottle of potassium permanganate crystals
- 1 snake bite lancet
- 1 pair of scissors
- 1 copy of the first-aid leaflet approved by the Chief Inspector of Factories
b. Where the number of workers employed exceeds 50 (fifty), the requirements for the first-aid box are doubled in number for items (i) to (vi), doubled in quantity for items (vii) to (ix), and remain the same for items (x) to (xii). Additionally, there is a requirement to provide:
- 12 roller bandages 4 inches wide
- 12 roller bandages 2 inches wide
- 6 triangular bandages
- 2 packets of safety pins
- A supply of suitable splints
- 1 tourniquet
The first-aid box must be kept in charge of a responsible person who needs to always be readily available during the working hours of the establishment. The person in charge of the first-aid box is trained in First Aid treatment.
