Weekend Overtime: Should Employees Get Compensatory Time Off Too?

Is it necessary to give compensatory time off to an employee working on a weekend when the company is already paying overtime for working on weekends?

Hi Vinay,

I am not sure whether your company falls under the purview of the Shops and Establishment Act, the Factories Act, or any other regulations. Regardless, as per the provisions of the applicable Act, it is mandatory for employees to have one day off per week. In cases where the employer requires the employee to work all seven days, compensatory time off (comp off) is granted by the employer. Additionally, overtime pay or holiday allowance is provided as a benefit by the employer to the employee for their work efforts beyond the regular duty hours.
