Can Employers Revoke Access and Change Duties During Notice Period? What Are My Rights?

Hi, my employer (a reputed company) has asked me to look for a job somewhere else after they did not confirm me following a 6-month probation period. They have also taken away all computer network and other accesses. Additionally, they are stating that until I serve the notice period, they will assign any other work that management deems suitable for me in the department. They mentioned that I could give my resignation, serve a three-month notice period, and leave the next day once I find another job.

Rights of Employers During Notice Period

Does any company have the right to revoke computer network and other accesses and assign different work to its employees during the notice period? Furthermore, when they mention providing alternative work that the company deems suitable, could this be considered degrading or defaming employees? What rights do employees have in such situations?

Dear friend, what is happening with you is unfortunate, but from what you have written, it can be deduced that your employer has developed a strong distaste for you. While you have described the effect, your post falls short of mentioning the causes behind it.

What about your performance? Is it average, good, very good, or excellent? Did you have any clashes with anyone? Did you rub any senior authority the wrong way? There must be some reason.

Employer's rights and employee's options Employees can be assigned any work as deemed fit by the employers. Most companies mention a clause regarding this in the appointment letter. Check your appointment letter to see what it says. Additionally, the change of department is one of the usual tactics employers use to force employees to submit their resignation.

It gives the impression that your employer did not find you suitable during the probation period, which is why they did not confirm your service. The notice period is in accordance with the terms stated in the offer letter that was issued to you. If there is no clause regarding serving a notice period in your offer letter, you may contest it.
