Balancing Work Hours: How Can a 6-Day Workweek Be Fair for Everyone?

Ideal Work Timings for a 6-Day Working Company

I wanted to know what should be the ideal work timings for a 6-day working company, considering there are no half-days on Saturday. According to labor law, it states that 9 hours in a day should not exceed more than 48 hours in a week. Ideally, if we work for 9 hours, it totals 54 hours in a week. In this scenario, employees often feel that we are working more hours than necessary in a week. Can we propose to management to reduce it by 30 minutes on a daily basis, which would mean 8.5 hours (inclusive of a 30-minute lunch break) a day and 51 hours in a week?

Dear Friend,

As per the Factories Act, every 4 hours of work, half an hour of rest is to be provided.

Dear Member,

According to labor law, it states that the work hours should not exceed 9 hours in a day or more than 48 hours in a week. For a six-day work week, you can work for 8 hours daily with an extra rest interval. For a five-day work week, you can work for 9 hours with an additional rest interval. This results in 48 weekly hours for a six-day work week and 45 weekly hours for a five-day work week. Generally, it is required to allow at least a half-hour rest after five hours of continuous work.
