Understanding EDLI Benefits: How Much Support Should Saravanan's Family Receive?

sabaritha
Sir, I'm Saravanan, one of our employees who worked only for 6 months (Date of Joining: 01.04.2016, Date of Death: 30.11.2016). His average basic salary was 7000/-. How much EDLI benefit amount should be given to his family?

Dear Sabarita,

To benefit from EDLI, the member must be contributory at the time of death, and in that month, the employer has to reflect the deceased employee with the date marked. Employees marked as exits for retirement or cessation (short service) are not eligible. As almost 2 years have passed since the date, please update on the status of why this claim was not submitted in past years.

Thank you.

Dear Sabarita,

He will receive Rs. 2,15000/- as EDLI coverage. The calculations are as follows:

Monthly basic + DA = 7000
Multiple of 30
50% of the total contribution
Formula: (Basic + DA) * 30 + 50% of the total contribution
7000 * 30 = 210000/-
Supposedly, 50% of the total contribution is = 5000/-
EDLI insurance amount is = 210000 + 5000 = 215000/-
