Training session for employees - pay employees as well for that session attended?

HRthings
Hello all, I would like to ask you here that if employer is spending for employees's soft skill training, does he need to pay employees as well for that session attended?
Kindly help!

Dear HRthings,
Your query is not clear. Please give correct information like who attended training, who conducted the training, where it was conducted, who paid the training charges etc. Is your query from the employer's side or employee's side? Please specify that also.
Thanks,

Dear Dinesh,
Thanks for your response! I am an HR working in an IT company, actually we have hired a soft skill trainer to train our employees, so should we schedule this session during office hours or we can schedule it after office hours?

Dear HRthings,

All the training programmes, be it soft skills or any other training need to be conducted during working hours only. Training should not be taken as a burden and cannot be considered as secondary to the primary duties.  Training improves the work performance which in turn improves the work culture of the company. Therefore, it has to be given due importance.

Possibly there could be resistance from the managers to spare their subordinates for the training. But then they need to be educated first on the importance of having trained staff. They need to be told that training is conducted for the following reasons:

a) To reduce some cost

b) To reduce the consumption of resources

c) To reduce the turnaround time of some process and

d) To increase or decrease of some ratio

If you conduct the training programme beyond working hours then the employees may attend the training halfheartedly and the above objectives may not be achieved. Then what is the use of employment of a soft skills trainer?

It appears that you are yet to acquire conceptual clarity on employee training. You may refer my past reply to one of the queries on the employee training. Click the following link to refer it:

Lastly, you need to be given some development feedback. While seeking advice from HR fraternity, you could have been a little thoughtful. As such HRs from IT companies have overbearing pride. But then do your posts reflect your stature as HR from an IT company? Please ask this question to yourself! Hope the soft skill trainer that you have employed injects self-esteem in the employees of your company and you too get personal benefit from it!

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar

Unfortunately, the training sessions now-a-days becoming a eye wash activity, only to achieve a targeted goal whether under Performance Management System or ISO Procedures.
