Dual Employment Dates Overlap: Will This Affect My EPF Transfer or Claim Process?

shashipoojary
I recently changed jobs, and in my present company, the Date of Joining (DOJ) in the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) is 24/01/2018, but the Date of Exit (DOE) from my previous employment is 31/01/2018. This results in a dual employment situation for 7 days. Are there any potential issues that may arise during the PF transfer or claim process? Please assist.

Hi Shashi,

Either you have to change the current company's Date of Joining (DOJ) or the previous one. There is now a facility available on the EPFO employee portal where you can correct your current DOJ, and that request will be sent to your current employer for approval. Dual employment is not allowed, and furthermore, the PF department may reject your transfer or claim due to an incorrect DOJ.

Thank you.

Dear Sir,

Both the previous employer and current employer have paid the contributions for the month of Jan'2018. Is it possible to change the Date of Exit (DOE) or Date of Joining (DOJ) now? If so, would it be acceptable to make these changes through the EPF portal?

Hi,

It's alright if they have paid the extra amount because EPF has a problem with non/less payers, not with extra contributions. Although you have provided a justified answer stating that it was a clerical error, which you have rectified afterwards.

Thanks,
Preeti

Hi,

Yes, it is acceptable by EPFO authority. Please fill the declaration form and then submit it to the PF department.

Employment History and Provident Fund Transfer Issues

1. I was working for company X (PF number X) and resigned to join another company Y (PF number Y). However, after working for 2.5 months, I resigned from company Y and rejoined the same old company X, continuing with the same PF number X.

2. In 2017, I joined another company Z and transferred my PF accounts from X and Y to Z, and the transfer was successful.

3. In 2021, I joined another company P, and now I am trying to transfer my PF from Z to P. However, it's getting rejected with the reason "SERVICE OVERLAP of X and Y," even though the transfer was successful earlier.
