Calculating Prorated Leave for Employees Joining Mid-Year: How Do You Do It?

Can you please advise on how to calculate the leave entitlement for staff who joined on 15 Aug 2017 until Dec 2017? Annual leave entitlement is 14 days. Thank you.

It is quite tough. The actual prorate value per month is 1.17 per month.

When to receive the full grant - when joining before or on the 15th? Otherwise, half the grant when joining in the middle of the month.

As you only have 14 days of leave per year, the prorated value comes to approximately 1.17 per month, which can be quite challenging for leave allocation. One suggestion is to allocate 1 leave per month and allow the remaining 2 days as emergency leave or for use in disaster situations (you can assign any other name). Employees can avail of this additional leave after the probation period (for new employees) or at any time during the financial year.

If an employee joins after the 15th of any month, typically no leave is allocated for that month, though this may vary based on company policies.

Leave entitlement on a pro-rata basis is 5 days for the period 15/08/2017 to 31/12/2017 at 14 days per annum.
