Are Third-Party Payrolls in Top Companies Unfair to Employees? Let's Discuss Your Thoughts

Mohammed Junaid Mirza
Hi all, today, I want to shed light on a serious issue about companies, including top MNCs. It is embarrassing that in today's world, instead of hiring employees directly, top companies are engaging them through third-party payrolls. I have been working in a top MNC in Nasik, Maharashtra, India on a third-party payroll for a year, with a small salary, hidden payslip, no CL, PL, medical insurance, and other services provided to permanent employees. There are many people like me working for an extended period on a third-party payroll in my company. This practice is unfair to employees, damaging their careers and jeopardizing their lives. It may sound like frustration, but it reflects the harsh reality of today's era.

Your valuable suggestions are most welcome.

Dear Mohammad Junaid Mirza, contract workers cannot be deprived of statutory benefits like leave, payslip, medical insurance (in lieu of ESI), etc. I recommend you talk to the contractor. Otherwise, all of you together may give a collective application to the Labour Officer (LO) under whose jurisdiction your company falls. He may investigate the matter and restore your rights.

Have you completed more than 240 days of continuous work with the principal employer? If yes, you are eligible for permanent employment. However, before submitting an application for permanent employment, let us take opinions of other seniors.

Thanks,

Actually, I have been working here for more than a year. There are many people who have been working for 8 or 9 years on contract. They have lost their careers under the name of my MNC company, hoping that one day they will become permanent employees. However, in my personal opinion, the possibility of this is rare. I also joined the organization with the same hope under the company's name. During the interview, I asked if it was possible to become a permanent employee here, and the answer was yes. However, after joining the company, I discovered that many employees have been working here for many years without becoming permanent.

Dear Mohammad Junaid Mirza, being an off-roll/contract employee does not mean that your career is ruined in any way. If your performance and behavior at work are found to be suitable, you never know, they might promote you. If contract employees are not being transferred to the company's payroll, then they should move on to better opportunities. Why are they still sticking to the company and complaining? This is the game—take your experience and switch for a better salary; your next company might take you on rolls.

Dear Junaid,

I completely agree with Mr. Akash and Mr. S Venkatesh. Most of the MNCs are preferring to hire employees on third-party payroll, as it is very safe and cost-saving for the organization. Lean in and improve your skills and experience. Based on your MNC experience, you can find another opportunity on the payroll with good remuneration.
