What should I do to make my career as a hr generalist - Wherever I go for the interview they ask me about practical knowledge

Hi Dears,

I am from Faridabad. I completed my post-graduation in HR from Symbiosis last year. For the past six months, I have been working as an HR recruiter in a consultancy. I want to transition my career into an HR generalist role. I have theoretical knowledge of ESI and PF but lack practical experience. During interviews, I am often asked about my practical skills. Can you please suggest what steps I should take to pursue a career as an HR generalist? If there is a reputable institute in Faridabad that offers training, please let me know.

Thank you.

Dear Rita,

No institute can give you the practical knowledge you are talking about. Actually, I feel you are in the right place right now. On cite HR, you can get answers to all your queries regarding the same, and you can also study while working. Your company must be registered in PF, ESIC, etc. You can learn the same from the person responsible in your organization. It's not about what your job profile is; being an HR, you know that if you can answer the questions in an interview, then you can do it, or vice versa. But, believe me, the Generalist profile is not only about ESIC & PF; there is much more to it. Still, at the beginner's level, you can get on with it. All the best.

Recruitment is a part of the Generalist profile, so maybe you are not giving the right answers in the interview. Update yourself with the latest changes in the laws and rules and regulations, also update yourself with the new trends in HR. You need to keep brushing up your knowledge. Your answers must show eagerness and energy. The Statutory Job is not the only job, so you need to project your strengths and then face the interviews. You may be applying for jobs where the experience is 1+ years, so they will expect you to know the basics. Brush them up.

No amount of institutes will be able to give you practical training. So update and keep learning and growing.

All the best.
