Am I Entitled to a Commission for Bringing in a Successful Investor for My Startup?

Hi,

I am working with a startup where I introduced one of my sales leads to my co-founders, and over a few months, they managed to secure an investment of close to 2 million through him. I would like to know if I am eligible for any commission for bringing this lead to the table.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Generally, salespersons are paid sales incentives when they exceed their sales targets. In your case, you are not a direct salesperson but have provided a lead that resulted in an investment. Would the salesperson handling the investment be eligible for an incentive? If so, then for providing the lead, you too can claim an incentive, although the amount may be different from that of the salesperson.

Another aspect to consider is earning goodwill from the employer due to this investment. While you may not receive a direct incentive, gaining goodwill could lead to increased power or authority within the organization. This growth may not provide immediate monetary benefits but could be advantageous in the long run. Seeking an incentive for attracting the investment would yield immediate returns.

If you are rewarded with an incentive for bringing in the investment, there may be a trade-off affecting your non-monetary entitlements. It is essential to evaluate the internal dynamics of the company to determine the most suitable option for you.
