Feeling Stuck in HR After a Distance MBA: Is an LLB or Diploma the Right Move for Career Growth?

Hi Team, I need your guidance for my career growth. I completed my MBA 6 years ago through a distance learning program. I am currently working in a Taxation Firm as an HR, but I am not satisfied with my career. Kindly suggest something for upgrading my degree.

Considering Further Education

Some friends have suggested that I pursue an LLB course, and I am considering a Diploma in Industrial and Labor Law. Would pursuing an LLB or another course be the right decision? Are there other courses that could enhance my career prospects? Being a DLP MBA graduate has not helped me secure good opportunities.

If you are already working in HR in a taxation firm, then you are expected to know the basics of HR. At this stage, rather than acquiring certification in various courses, you need to choose a job where you can learn the practical aspects of HR. The essence of HR lies in improving human productivity. It can be achieved even without further courses. Just review your study material once again and find out the scope of implementing the knowledge you gained in your course. What is the use of accumulating knowledge if you do not implement it?

Whether in a lawyer's firm or otherwise, your challenge will remain increasing human productivity. Make an action plan and get it vetted by a senior HR professional. While implementing this plan, you will learn a lot, and it will be far better than any certification course.

In HR, you must have a good working knowledge of Labor Laws, the Contract Act, and legal drafting, etc. If you have a good understanding of the law, you can handle industrial relations, domestic inquiries, and union matters effectively.

HR is a vital field. Knowledge of various acts related to IR, compliances, factory, establishment, labor, etc. will surely add value in enhancing your capability in an HR role. However, if you are not happy with the current job, you may go for whatever makes you feel happy with eternal peace. Pursuing an LLB is a good option; you can continue in the same field, and if you are more passionate, then go for practice where you can do a lot for a social cause.
