New to HR? Seeking Advice on Hosting an Effective Open House for Our Startup

HRJeeva
Hi guys,

We are a 2-year-old startup software company. I'm the first HR professional for this company. We are planning to conduct an "Open House" to address the queries from the employees. Could someone please share more information about an "Open House"? You all are experienced HR professionals, so kindly guide me and share your experiences with Open House.

Thank you.

Dear Jeeva, Open House is a very effective process to understand and improve both internal and external processes, as well as to identify any loopholes in the system. It is essential to have one representative from each department present to address the queries of the associates, as these queries may not be solely related to HR. Additionally, it is important to ensure that all queries raised by the associates during the Open House are resolved or responded to. Some queries may not be answered or resolved immediately, but it is crucial to inform all participants as soon as they are resolved. You need to establish a proper timeline and follow-up process to ensure all queries are addressed and responses are provided to the participants.

Dear Jeeva, this is in addition to what Manoj has said. On completion of the meeting, Minutes of Meeting (MOM) have to be circulated to all the HODs. In the MOM, you have to mention who will take action. When the next open house meeting takes place, you need to read out the points that were raised in the last meeting and the actions taken thereafter. If action on some point is still pending, then it needs to be explained why the action is pending. After the review of the last meeting, a fresh meeting starts.

Presentation Consistency at Google

At Google, the CEO shows the presentation in their meeting that he had given to the BoD. Therefore, there is no variation in what was told to the BoD and the employees.

Thanks,
