Startup Let Me Go After a Month Without Pay – How Should I Handle This?

ankushrai
I had joined a startup one month ago. I had worked there sincerely for one month. I have received a job joining email with the salary breakup, but they didn't provide me with a hard copy of the offer letter. They also opened my salary account. However, at the end of the month, they informed me that my performance was very low, so they asked me to leave the job. When I inquired about my salary, they responded by saying, "What do you mean by salary? You have not completed any work."

Please suggest what I should do.

Dear Ankush, please ensure you obtain proper clearance from your company and complete the standard separation procedure. Once everything is finalized, please wait until the 10th of the following month. Subsequently, send a letter by registered post regarding the non-credit of wages. Remember to also send a copy to the labor officer in your area. Moreover, personally submit a hard copy to the labor office. If the employer fails to reconcile the issue, you should then submit an application to the labor officer requesting intervention. Hopefully, the officer will assist you. If not, please return and provide details of the challenges you encountered.

Thanks,

Dear Dinesh and Amit,

I had lodged an online complaint against the employer on the Maharashtra Kamgar website. I am waiting for their answer.

Yes, there are some companies in Nashik also not paying salaries to employees. I have also faced the same issue. My almost 3 months' salary is pending, and they have not released the salary till now.

Dear Ankush,

You have indicated that you were employed in a startup. I presume that it's an IT company. Furthermore, you have not mentioned anything about your job role. What was your position, and how did you work? Were you provided with a terminal to work on? They must have also created your email ID. Did they issue you an identity card?

Please answer these questions to receive appropriate advice.

Warm regards,
Bharat Gera
