Probation Extended Without Notice and Asked to Resign: What Should I Do Now?

Ujjwal123Kumar
Hi, this is Ujjwal Kumar, currently working at Meritnation as a Faculty for the last 6 months.

Issue with Probation Period

I joined this organization on 23-11-16, and my probation was for 6 months, scheduled to complete on 23-05-17. After finishing my probation period, I checked my ESS account for confirmation, but there was none.

I emailed them on 01-06-17 about this, and today I received a reply stating that my probation period has been extended for the next 3 months. Additionally, today I have been asked to resign due to company benefits (cost-cutting reasons).

What should I do?

Have you checked your appointment letter for the provisions of probation and termination of services during the probation period? What is written in the appointment letter?

Provisions of Probation

As far as the rules of probation are concerned, an employee's probation can continue for up to a year. Therefore, there is nothing wrong if your company has extended the probation. Even discontinuation of services could also be within the provisions of the appointment letter. However, further clarification can be given only after your confirmation.

Thanks,
