How Do I Create an Effective MIS Report for My Managing Director or CEO?

Latha2008
Hello,

I want to know how to make an MIS report for the Managing Director or CEO. As an Executive Assistant to the MD, how should I prepare it? Please let me know.

Dear Latha, we, the members of this forum, are outsiders and do not know anything about the nature of your business or the expectations of your MD. If you are the Executive Assistant reporting to the MD or CEO, then it is his duty to provide the format for the report. Therefore, you may sit with him sometime and understand his expectations.

Regarding the reports

Some of the information has to come from the HODs as well. Therefore, the MD must issue a circular on what information he wants from them, when he wants it, and how he wants it presented. You might be the person to compile the information and provide it in a tabulated format.

Thanks,

MIS Report Preparation

Mr. Divekar is right in stating that your management should provide you with the template in which they would want the MIS reports to be presented. Each organization and each management would have a different perspective on what to focus attention on, and the MIS is therefore tailored accordingly.

However, you can look up the following link and download some MIS samples shared there. Prepare your own MIS format based on inputs from what you download and your own understanding of what your management would be looking for in the MIS reports.

Whatever format you prefer, but generally, senior management does not get time to read all the data. They just need a snapshot of all the things so that within less time they can gather most of the required information. For this, graphs are good. Now in Excel 2010 to 2016, we can create dashboards easily using pivot-charts in which you can add timelines and slicers to make the dashboard dynamic. What kind of information they need must have already been shared with you.
