Please tell me, if a company provides half-day leave and an employee requests additional leave on the same day, how is the leave calculated - as 0.5 days or 1 day?
This depends on how your company deals with the issue as the matter relates to company policy. In common parlance, they are right in deducting one day's salary as the half-day was a perquisite for those who attended for that half-day.
On a particular day, if a company has declared rules that half-day working will be considered a full pay day, it is just, fair, and equitable. Not reporting on that day needs to be considered as one full day of leave or absence. The company is right in doing so.
