Struggling with Denied Privilege Leaves: How Can We Address Unfair Leave Policies?

Nilesh S
Dear All, I am working as an HR Executive (Employee Relations) in a BPO. Many of the agents working here do not have any CL/SL, except for privilege leaves. During the festive season, their operations head does not allow the agents to take leaves. I raised the concern to my HR manager, but he said it's a business requirement, and we cannot disturb the business by approving their privilege leave.

Even if the agents are asking for resignation, the business supervisors are asking them to serve the notice period in the coming month. If any agent is in need of some personal emergency and their leaves are not getting approved, what action can we take against such a business head/supervisor? Our policy clearly states that employees have every right to take privilege leave, but still, the same is not getting approved.

All heads, please suggest.

Dear [Recipient],

Your BPO is covered by the state Shops & Establishments Act, which has provisions relating to the grant of leaves. If your employer does not allow you your due leaves or holidays, please approach the law enforcing authority (Labour Department).
