Career in leadership - short term and long term career options apart from research?

Malavika M
I am very keen in the concept of leadership and would like to build a career on this. What would be my short term and long term career options apart from research? I also heard about leadership mentoring. How relevant and popular is this in India for a career path?

In your personal information column it is indicated that you are a student. However you have not indicated your subject. One simple thing to learn is any one can become a leader. Leaders can be found in all fields.
However it is challenging to become a leader. To remain a leader for a long time is an even more tougher proposition. Read books and articles on Leadership. Depending on your time and resources you can attend programmes on Leadership.

It appears that you have confused with the concept of leadership and this confusion can be only when you read books on the leadership.

Leadership is not a position but a response to a situation said Stephen Covey. Organisation can only grant a Positional Power to an employee but how he/she exercises it, shows on the leadership qualities of that person.

Leadership cannot be a goal of life rather leadership is a way of life. Leaders are known to rise to correct something when they find situation merits positive change. Therefore, irrespective of the position that you may acquire, your leadership will be determined by the positive change that you will try to foster. To bring the positive change, leaders have complete conviction. Their sense of conviction is often seen in the way leaders carry themselves, or the way they act or interact. Their behaviour inspire others and they start attracting followers.

Though there are training programmes on the leadership, in all the practical aspects what goes on is just a discussion on leadership. It is a discussion on leadership qualities, discussion on the management style of the past business leaders and why leadership failed. In the training programmes efforts, are made to educate the participants why leadership succeeded or failed.
