Termination Date On Relieving Letter

swarnas
Hello
An employee from our company worked till mid June. His salary has been paid till the actual last date worked. However, he wants his last date of employment on the relieving letter to show as end of July and requires us to mention that he was on sick leave till July end. Is it possible to do that ?

Dear Swarnas,
What employee is asking is showing false attendance. However, what purpose will it serve? Why he want to do that?
These kind of things happen on the trust. If you are so sure that employee will not use this extended tenure to cover up some unlawful activity then you may do it. However, there is a risk also. It could set trend and others may also place similar demand.
If you are sure that the employee will not use the extended tenure for shadowy deal then you will have to do some back end work. Ask the employee to submit application for Leave Without Pay (LWP) till 31-Jul-2016 and show his discharge from your company on that day. However, how far the HRIS, the software that you use will support it remains to be seen.
Thanks,

Do not do it, certificate must be as per your records only. nothing more or nothing less. Who knows whether that employee claims later for other benefits for additional days he worked as per his certificate. Strictly speaking do not encourage such requests, if he wants to have his experience certificate to show him he worked till end of June, he would not have in first place resigned early.
